Two Vancouver outreach nurses, Evanna Brennan and Susan Giles, have come out of retirement to become front-line caregivers, battling the city’s deadly opioid crisis, which has caused thousands of deaths in British Columbia.

Brennan and Giles had just learned that Heather’s 22-year-old daughter died a few days earlier of an overdose. The two nurses quickly move to Heather’s side and hug her. “Is there anything we can do?”
